 Here are some more details:

 Cub Scout Leader Fast Start

This is the first step toward training for any volunteer new to Cub Scouting. This course should be taken immediately after you register but before you begin youth activities. The course introduces the aims and purposes of the Boy Scouts of America's foundational program, and then zeroes in on the job. Subsections of the course will brief anyone new to the job of Tiger Cub leader, Den Leader, Webelos Den Leader, or Cubmaster. Also covered are the standard parts of the meeting and information as to where additional resources can be found. This program typically takes no more than an hour to complete. Those taking it on-line for credit in local council records must provide their official BSA member ID number as part of their user profile.

Cub Scout Leader Fast Start Training is available online at www.myscouting.org. Please go to "Online Training" for details.

Youth Protection Training

The BSA places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members.

This training explores key issues in child abuse and prevention. The 3 R's of prevention, "recognize, resist and report" are emphasized. It is designed to help prevent child abuse in all of its forms. This training is required for Quality Unit, Adult Leader Training Awards, and for all activities and events that require a local or national tour permit.

This course covers the BSA's Youth Protection policies, kinds of abuse, signs of abuse, how to respond to disclosure of abuse, and proper reporting procedures. The on-line training does so by taking you through situations that require choices and produce consequences. Successful completion of this course requires an 80 percent or higher score.

If you take this test, on-line, as a registered member of the BSA and designate your local council, your completion will be reported back to your council to adjust your training records. You'll also be offered a certificate of completion. As of January 2009, Youth Protection Training will be valid for two years from the date completed and is required for all tour permits.

Youth Protection Training Training is available online at www.myscouting.org. Please go to "Online Training" for details.

Units may request group training by contacting one of your District Training Chairs or your District Executive. A minimum of 5 participants is required.

Cub Scout Leader Specific Training

This is Scouting

“This is Scouting,” is a new required course for all adult volunteers. The hour-long program—available in the BSA’s Online Learning Center—introduces participants to the following six areas of the Scouting program:

  • Mission, vision and values
  • Programs for all ages and abilities
  • Scouting is fun
  • Scouting in the community
  • Protecting our youth
  • Scouting’s legacy

"This is Scouting" is available online at www.myscouting.org. Please go to "Online Training" for details.

You can expect to see a short, action-packed, and informative video for each of the six modules listed above. At the end of each video, you’ll be asked to answer a few basic questions to test your comprehension. Once you’re done, you’ll get a certificate of completion and be on your way to enjoying the Scouting program to its fullest.
