2010 BSA Year of Celebration Award PDF Print E-mail

a_year_of_celebrationIt's a special award we can all earn this year...

The requirements are explained in detail in the flyer, but here is the short version:

We want every Scout, adult leader, and Scouting alum to have the chance to be part of our biggest milestone yet—our 1OOth Anniversary Celebration. We want to fire up the passion for Scouting while giving everyone an opportunity to make a difference—and earn recognition. Through A Year of Celebration, A Century of Making a Difference, we will do just that. Individuals can earn awards by demonstrating dedication to five of Scouting’s core values—Leadership, Achievement, Community Service, Character, and the Outdoors. Participants can earn one award in each category. The program will be both fun and engaging and, most important, will show America the impact of Scouting through its commitment to these values. A Year of Celebration will be in effect from Sept. 1, 2009, through Dec. 31, 2010.

There are different requirements for Cubs, Boy Scouts, Venturers, Leaders, and Alumni.

Complete 3 requirements in each category, and earn one award. Complete all 5 awards to earn all 5 ribbons for the patch.

FINISHED WITH RIBBON REQUIREMENTS? ORDER YOUR YEAR OF CELEBRATION AWARDS.

Please note: Ribbon requirements are entered online, but either order the awards online, or take your order form to the Scout Shop to purchase the awards.

Commissioner Emphasis:

* Rechartering - March ends our rechartering season but there is
wrap up work to do in helping units that are late with the paperwork.
Commissioners should also present charters to units and sponsoring
organizations with an appropriate ceremony.
* Centennial Quality Unit – The Centennial Quality Program for
units reinforces the importance of Commissioner Service. A pack,
troop or crew sets goals within broad areas that reflect delivery of a
quality program to their members and an improvement from the previous
year. The unit commissioner is a key person in helping them do this.
By making personal visits to unit meetings the unit commissioner can truly help deliver
the magic of Scouting to every youth in our program.
* Spring Membership Recruitment – We are into the new recruiting
season especially for Boy Scouts and Tigers. Packs are in the middle
of Webelos Crossover ceremonies with the boys being welcomed into
Troops. For commissioners, this is an ideal way to provide
unit service.
* Training – Every boy deserves a trained leader. Let’s encourage
all leaders to get trained. If an experienced Scouter has changed
positions, this is a great opportunity for new training to keep their
skills up to date. Refer to the council web site for specifics.
