Scout Night @ the Races Information

Who: All registered Scouts and Scouters in uniform.

What: Free admission courtesy Jefferson Speedway to racing events of 8/25/2012 and free overnight camping.

Where: Jefferson Speedway US Hwy.18 between Jefferson and Cambridge

When: August 25th 2012.

While Scouts and Scouters in uniform enjoy free admission, family members and friends wishing to attend will be required to pay normal admission fee.

The Speedway management will allow family to camp with their Scout and his unit free.

Camping area is non-improved meaning no power or water hook-ups. Porta-pottie facilities as well as public bathrooms are available.

Cub Scout Packs wishing to camp are reminded that this event constitutes a ‘family camping event’ and must accompany their Cub Scout or Scouts for the duration of the Scouts visit.

Camping will be open for set-up at 10am Saturday morning 8/25/2012.

RVs/pop-up campers are allowed, however no facilities exist at Jefferson Speedway to dump grey and/or black water tanks.

Cooking and eating. As this is a simple overnighter event with the focus on the racing, I am urging all who attend to consider eating at the tracks concession stands.

The Bargain Fair on Sunday mornings has a good breakfast menu and is rather tasty as well as convenient.

We can host a ‘Cracker Barrel’ round the campfire after the racing in the main campsite area. Units can bring snack type foods and drinks for this.

Units wishing to overnight must RSVP no later than august 18 2012.

I will have my RV at the track camping area for the use of our district as the main information/first aid/command center for the duration of the event.

The district has the use of the Speedways covered pavilion during the afternoon and evening of this event. This area would be a wonderful area to set up a Pinewood track and allow Scouts to grudge race for bragging rights and of course as a recruiting draw for boys interested in joining Scouts…we need a Pack to bring their track. This should be confirmed ASAP to alleviate problems.

Boy Scout troops interested in attending may have the chance to camp out Friday night if enough Troops are interested.

I have been asked by the Jefferson Speedway management to be the point contact person between them and the Southern Lakes district.

YiS, Will Kirchmayer
